CrossFont is a very simple and easy-to-use application created to help you convert between fonts typically supported by Mac systems and the fonts supported by Windows PCs. It can basically convert TrueType and PostScript Type1 fonts between Macintosh and PC platforms. Therefore, it can also convert PostScript Type 1 fonts to the OpenType format.

CrossFont is created and maintained by Acute Systems which is a well-known developer of utilities that convert between Mac and Windows formats, such as the popular TransMac disk image conversion tool. This means that CrossFont is also accurate and reliable as it has been developed by a team with a lot of experience in this type of conversions.

Its interface is very simple, neat and intuitive. Just load the font files that you want to convert and choose the output format and location. CrossFont can load and convert Mac TrueType fonts like DFONT, FFIL and TFIL; Mac and PC PostScript TypeOne fonts (LWFN and PFB); ASCII fonts (AFM, PFA), and even common OpenType and TrueType fonts like OTF and TTF. Font information is provided for every loaded font file, including a sample text and a handy basic character map.

Additional features like the ability to automatically search for fonts in .zip archives and preserve character outlines, metrics and hinting between conversions are also available.

Its only downside is its price, which is a bit high, but other than that, there’s nothing else to criticize about this utility. To sum it all up, CrossFont is perfect whenever you need to convert font files between formats compatible with Mac systems and formats for Windows PCs. It’s an easy-to-use tool that works flawlessly.
